Anybody with experience on Altium Nanoboard 3000?

Hi,
I am considering buying Altium Nanoboard 3000 (Altera edition). Only thing that is preventing me from actually buying it is the tight coupling to Altium Designer software. The board comes with a 1 year license for the Designer software. What happens after 1 year? Will the board become a brick unless I can shell out big bucks for their software? Can the board be fully utilized without Designer, using software from Altera?

My several emails to Altium on the subject have gone unanswered. May be they do not want to answer my questions. Also, their user forum is limited to only their paying customers, even for reading the posts. You need to have your license number to register for the forum!
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
