FPGA board with lots of IO pins

Postby geconom » Sun Feb 14, 2010 10:06 am

I am involved in a project that requires 600 simultaneus pulse generators. Does anyone know of an FPGA development board with more than 600 available user I/O pins or do I have to go with a custom build board?

Hi Geconom,

Could you describe a little bit more your project (pulse characteristic, ...)?

More than 600 user I/O available means a big FPGA like Virtex or Stratix, therefor a high price.

Hope this help.

Hi Thoma. I want to build 600 pulse generators with frequencies between 1Hz and 10KHz. I am interested in both single FPGA boards, that have to be Virtex or Stratix to supply all that pins, or multi FPGA boards, with more than 1 Spartan or Cyclone.

Hi Geconom,

Can you define the pulse properties: low level time and high level time?
And why not use some kind of multiplexing? With several 74HC4094, you could have a 7 bit resolution for your pulse at 10kHz.
Do these generators have some kind of synchronization?
