Pluto II to RS232

Postby goldscarabeus » Wed Oct 10, 2007 7:40 pm

Hi to everyone,
I need to interface my Pluto II to the COM1 of my PC (RS232),
I found in the handbook of Pluto II that you can't connect directly this to elements so I made a circuit with an MAX232 that I the common way to communicate for my case.
It didn't work and the RX in the RS232 side have 2,5 Volt it seems that the voltage provided by the MAX232 circuit doesn't work good,
anyone can tell me if this is a problem of the circuit or a problem provided by the pluto II that is a TTL with an inside 3.3 Voltage????

Thanks,
sorry for my english.

You don't have to use the MAX232 just to configure the FPGA. Does that part work?

Sorry, but what do you mean whit "you have to configure the fpga"????
The problem is on the voltage I think, It's also written in the Pluto II starting manual that:
" Unlike Pluto, Pluto-II IOs are not directly 5V tolerant"

The RS232 connections are not IOs, so the 5V tolerance doesn't apply.
The Pluto-II RxD can accept directly an RS232 signal (-12V to +12V).
The TxD is a 3.3V signal that can go through a MAX232.

Ok, I know, but my question was referred to a connection from FPGA's IOs and a PC's RS232.
It doesn't matter I found the solution using the TXDI's PINS, next step will be to connect directly the IOs to a servo motor that uses a UART communication protocol.

Thanks a lot.
